I just created a Umbraco 7.2 site with the new Fanoe Starter Kit installed. I then enstalled uCommerce and the uCommerce Starter it. I now want to move the uCommerce Starter kit to the root of the site but keep the Fanoe Starter Kit available as a sample.
Is this possible ?
When I triend to move the uCommerce "Shop" root node, to the site root under "Content" it complained about it being the wrong type ?
I deleted the Fanoe Starter Kit root node and that worked tp get "Shop" to the root, but I don't know how to get The Fanoe Starter Kit pages back.
Any tips before I start from scratch again ? Is the Fanoe Starter Kit available as a stand alone package anywhere ?
I have just tried to install a vanilla Umbraco 7.2, and then installed the uCommerce core package and the razor demo store too. And the shop node is located beside the fonoe starter kit by default, and both of my sites are working.
If you want to move shop node in to the root of the Fanoe Starter Kit you should allow the front page document for the store to be child of the home page document type for the Fanoe Starter Kit. Then you will be able to move the node.
I just spend half and hour writting you a responce and I got logged out by Our Umbraco time out and lost it - Grrrr. Staring again :-) ...........
Thanks I followed your instructions by using
Settings / Home / Stucture / and checking "Front page"
Then in Content "Moving" "Shop" to be a child of "Home" then "Sorting" the childeren of "Home" so "Shop" is the first child.
This results in
Content
Home
Shop
Catalog
...
Learn
Export
....
However with this done "Fanoe" Starter Kit home page is still the home page.
I note that if you install Umbruco with no starter kit, then uCommerce with Razor Store then Store appears as the Home page with the following Hierarchy
Content
Shop
Catalog
....
What I would like to do is to install Umbraco with the Fanoe Starter Kit and then Move and Sort the nodes so that the Razor Store ("Shop") is the home page but so the Fanoe Starter Kit is still avalable and the node hierarchy looks like this:
The way that you can control which site that you respond on the regular domain is by add the domain in the hostnames and culture to the shop node, and add another domain to the Fanoe Starter Kit website.
So for the shop node you add your domain like http://domain.com and for the Fanoe Starter Kit website you could add http://domain.com/starterkit, then the shop node will respond as the primary website when you type your url into the browser.
Thanks, Very interesting - I did nto know you could do that, thanks again. however it is not exectly what I was wanting to achieve.
I have however now solved my question.
In the end the problem was that I did not understand how to use Umbraco properly. Newby error.
Specifically when moving a node in the "Content" hierarchy I did not undertand the difference between "Move" and "Sort" I assumed sort ment sort alphebetically or numerically as it often deas in computer science. Hoever in Umbraco it seems:
Move is used to Move a node to a new parent
Sort is used to manually (usually) change the ordering of nodes under a specifiic parent.
I was trying to use Move when I shoud have used Sort.
Adter installing Umbraco with the "Fanoe" Starter Kit and uCommerce Raser Store, the "Fanoe" Starter Kit and the Stor are both childeren of the root "Content" note - you can then simpley use Content / ... / Do Something Else / Sort to make the Razor stor appear as the default home page.
I hope tthis helps someone and again Dennis - thanks for your assistance.
