I can´t get the demo store to work

    Hello!

    System specs:

    umbraco v 4.0.3 (Assembly version: 1.0.3625.27276)

    Asp.Net 3.5

MsSql Express 2005 (I know this is a lite version but it is only for setting up a demo shop)

Windows XP, IIS 5.1 (is installed but I´m using UltidevCassini as recomended for installing on a local machine for demo use only)

    The problem at hand:

I have the same problem as an earlier topic written by Gary where he also only got the uCommerce logo and the text "your basket is empty".

I have tried to solve it with the recomendations that Gary recieved,

that is resave every node in the catalog and republish every node in the content structure.

I now get the product catalog but it displays only an empty bulletlist,

even though I added pictures to the products in the media section and under media on the product in hand.

What shall I do, please I need help! I need the demostore to be functional, to know if we are going further on this as a serius commitment of time and money.

    Kind regards

    Björn

I've had the same problem with 2 separate installs, seems this is a fairly common problem.

I don't know exactly what I had to do to get it to work but remember publishing pretty much every node I could find until eventually a product appeared.

Hope you get it sorted, would be interested to hear what you think about Ucommerce once you have evaluated it.

    Hi Rich!

It´s nice when people responds fast and good to know you got it to work, so I can still hope to get it to working status.

I will post my evaluation as soon as I can get it to work so I can evaluate it properly, my expectations on it is high, but i doesn´t have any doubt about it.

It seems the guys at uCommerce has built it well and thought it throug well enough.

Have you filled in Display names for your categoies? uCommerce will automatially select the right language to use based on the host name you configure for the content nodes running the store. If no display names have been entered you'll see the behavior you describe.

    Hello Soren!

Sorry for the small delay, but I was on leave of absence this friday due to engagement in a large military excercise in skane.

Yes I have filled in the Display names for my categories, I am using for the moment only the "demo" stuff that was shipped with the two packages from your website. And after I have "depublished" the runway standard site, (just to have only the uCommerce demo shop as the only webpage) I got following error message when I tried to click on the link from the catalog in the menue:

No umbraco document matches the url 'http://localhost:1233/catalog.aspx?catalog=uCommerce'

umbraco tried this to match it using this xpath query'/root/node [@urlName = "catalog"] | /root/node/node [@urlName = "catalog"]')

I have tried to make a complete new Installation on a clean Umbraco Installation, where the database is MsSql server Express 2005. I have de-published the runway standard webpage just to have only the webshop as the only page available on a localhost machine. I have added "System.Core" to the web.config file to be able to view the orders in the uCommerce admin section in Umbraco. But all this to no good I can see the start page for the shop where the catalog is in the menu, but when I click on the link I now get a "Page not found" error!

    Page not found

No umbraco document matches the url 'http://localhost:1233/catalog.aspx?catalog=uCommerce'

umbraco tried this to match it using this xpath query'/root/node [@urlName = "catalog"] | /root/node/node [@urlName = "catalog"]')

This is a bit enoying. All that I am trying to do is get the demo shop up and running so I can evaluate all this if our company is going further with all this or not. It feels like i´m standing still here so if someone has any clue please help. I think still this package seems to be really good but i can´t get it to work. Have I missed something vital?

    Kind regards

When I´m looking at the xslt-files in the developer section in Umbraco and more specific the "RootCategories[XSLT].xslt" file and try to visualize it.

It doesn´t display anything and it gives me a feeling that something is broken or something,

my earlier test installations did at least show a empty bulletlist with a bullet for each category,

but now I can´t even get there.

After a couple of frustrating hours I discovered by pure coincidence that none of the pages

had any templates by default so I picked out the templates that should match. But I can´t still navigate in the catalog, uCommerce can´t find catalog.aspx and that isn´t so strange because it doesn´t exist in the requested URL: /umbraco/developer/xslt/catalog.aspx. But if I pick out the catalog page and click on the link to the document I get an empty bullet list. It doesn´t make any sense to me anybody that has any clue?

The missing templates as I described in previus post hasn´t occured before hence my confusion, as I´m digging further in uCommerce it seems as it can´t find an alias for catalog.aspx. My thought is that it is something with the xslt file that runs (category[xslt].xslt), but i´m not sure because i can´t debugg it properly and it seems a bit hard to get some information about how to get it up and running (the demostore).

I founded some of the URL´s in the xslt files wheren´t correct, they where missing /shop/ (the folder/subpage shop) and so far it works so far as I can get the catalog up but no categories (when I inspect the generated html I can see that it has been created a list item for a category, in this case "software" but it is listed as empty even though it has an item called uCommerce in itself)?

    Any one got any ideas?

At least some progress! I´ve got the thumbnail image displayed but nothing more.

There has been faulting alias as well, but it has been a small progress. At least something.

I have at least got the shop to the stage where the products are showing, but the cart isn´t showing all info about the product. I can´t get @name or @displayName only @sku or even @name for the different variants . Under address I cant select anything in the select box above Firstname. Under shippingmethods I fixed so I can at least see the option "download", but I can not get it to proceed to payment. Some work is still there though, but almost there.

Finally I got an order through the system. But it feels like it all is a halting machine when I can´t show all the information about the product or even add some choices in the admin section that will show up in the webb front (store). But it is kind of working now (phue a huge stone is of my chest).

What happens if you navigate to yourstore.com/shop.aspx?

It seems to me that the store package wasn't installed properly by Umbraco. The store package is nothing but a couple of content nodes and XSLT files. Unfortunately Umbraco doesn't handle content nodes with multiple allowed templates so we have to run a small piece of code to match of nodes with their template.

The match is done by name so given a content node called "Cart" a match will be made with a template with that same name. It looks like that this process wasn't performed for some reason, maybe because the installer was interrupted in some way.

Did you receive any errors when you installed it or were you returned to the "Package installed" page with information on the package?

To make it work you can match up the nodes and templates by name as I described.

    Hello Soren!

The store is some what working now, even though I cant get product names to show either through alias @name or @displayName. There are orders that are "dropping" in to the system (admin section of the uCommerce) as it should do.
No I can´t recall that there where any errors during or after installing either uCommerce or uCommerce Store.
The weird part is the first install I made on my local machine, the connections through templates where intact. Later I uninstalled it to test another application which was not that god as a result it made me go back to installing uCommerce again (and the store too). This was when the template problem started.
I detected a couple of faulting alias wich made the application halt ie when adding to basket, proceeding to shipping and proceeding to payment.
But that part wasn´t that hard.
The URL for some of the sites wasn´t correct (missing the "/shop/" infront of the pagename).

Many Thanks for support and guidelines Soren!

    Kind Regards
