Hii there!!! i wanted to know that is Umabraco Rest Api still in use, I have seen many post regarding it that its been shutdown against the umbraco Headless. So is it good to go ahead with Umbraco Rest Api or not?? Please suggest me the alternative to it if its been shutdown.

    Hi Ishan

The REST API is no longer being maintained but that does not mean you can't use it anymore - It's still available at https://github.com/umbraco/UmbracoRestApi

But as you mention the focus for Umbraco HQ is on Umbraco Headless from now on. But the old REST API should still be useful. But if you don't want to make use of it you can consider writing some Web API controllers instead maybe? You can learn more about how to do that here https://our.umbraco.com/documentation/reference/routing/webapi/

Another option is to have a look at Matt Brailsfords HeadRest here https://github.com/mattbrailsford/umbraco-headrest - It's a REST based headless approach for Umbraco, which is kind of an alternative to Umbraco Headless - Matt has done a nice comparison chart here https://github.com/mattbrailsford/umbraco-headrest#how-is-headrest-different-to-umbraco-headless

    I hope this helps :)

Thanks jan Skovgaard sir, I will look into the above mentioned solutions. And i was looking into umbraco headless today and signed into the Beta version of it which is i guess 14 days trial version, i wanted to know when the full version of it would be launched and will it be a free source like umbraco cms or it will be a paid one.

    Hi Ishan

I don't think that there currently is a time limit on the Headless beta. But if I'm not mistaken the aim is to launch the service in the first quarter of 2019 unless something unforeseen happens.

It will be a paid service since Umbraco Headless will only be available as a software as a service solution (SAAS). But to my knowledge nothing about the pricing has been revealed yet.

Make sure to have a look at the Headless documentation available here as well https://our.umbraco.com/documentation/Umbraco-Cloud/Headless/

    /Jan
