Sorry if this is the wrong location, but it seemed fitting enough.
At work, we are now slowly starting to use Umbraco and so far like almost everything about it. I say almost, because my boss is not impressed with the rich text editor. Especially considdering the fact that the regular TinyMCE editor DOES seem to work exactly the way he wants it to work.
So my questions are, is there anyway to change the umbraco TinyMCE to the regular one? And, since I'm curious, why was this even done in the first place? It seems silly to strip/dumb down a seemingly great editor to something that is just not it.
Firstly, are you aware that you can turn on (and off) the features of Tiny MCE by going to Developer/Data Types, select "RichText editor"?
The reason that features are cut down IMHO is that mostly you do not want your users to be able to colour & resize text at will, also these types of styles are injected "inline", not good for getting your CSS to validate.
The way that we deal with styling the text within these fields is to set up styles for each editor, mainly things like H1, H2 & H3 and then anything custom that you need. This means your design remains consistent and how your designer specified how it should look.
Thanks for your speedy reply! Yes, you did understand the question correctly and yes I am aware of those features ;)
In anycase, I can see why one would not want their user to be able to do so, but frankly my boss does not. He basically says, if I want to make this little bit of text red, I should be able to do so without first calling you to make a style for it. Also, I can make headers that way, but they are not "real" headers. My boss is big on SEO, and wants full control on where in his content he wants to place header tags.
Then there is also the fact that images do not have the advanced tab edit tab where you can set their margin and stuff. I found a post with a work around for that, but still. Functionality like that is essential for someone that would be spending 90% of his time staring at the editor. The little scroll functionality also annoys him greatly. He would prefer simple toolbars. Again, like the standard TinyMCE already offers.
Unstripped/dumbed down TinyMCE in umbraco
