I would like to know if I can to work in umbraco with folders that are not inside in umbraco system, like a image folder.
Other question is about the aspx files. Can I use a folder that is not in umbraco system for my files (aspx) like "contact.aspx" created by umbraco?
The reason is that I want to work with folders are in httpdocs today. The httpdocs folders must be management by the host administrator, because we have restriction by folder size. We must have the control of each folder inside in domain.
If you have other web folders not in umbraco you can put them in the root installation dir. However to actually then access the files you must update the web.config and add those folders to the node this will tell the umbraco httphandler to ignore those folders and let the webserver server them up direct.
so if you have folder eduardo you would update to
if its just pages then update the node umbracoReservedUrls and add pages there.
When you mean 3 sites do you mean 3 external non umbraco sites or do you actually mean 3 folders that are in the umbraco installation dir for example you have folder structure:
c:\inetpub\wwwroot\eduardo
\umbraco
iis is pointing to root folder c:\inetpub\wwwroot\eduardo. Then you have 3 folders in the site that have pages not controlled by umbraco eg
if that is the case then you would add folder1,folder2,folder3 so the web.config key umbracoReservedPaths and umbraco will not process them. So yes you can have multiple separated by ,
So, I can't control httpdocs of that sites using ?
I really need to put that folders in umbraco folder?
How can I make "update the node umbracoReservedUrls and add pages there"?
I did this:
but I think that doesn't work (I have created the folder and the file).
My main idea is to manage multiple sites using the same umbraco installation, managing his httpdocs that aren't in umbraco folder.
Other question that I would like to ask you is:
Where stay my aspx files? For example, the files of runway package, or other files that I have created?
When you create website pages through umbraco they do not get created on the file structure, they do not physically exist. They sit in the database which is view you see in the CMS. When you publish the page they get added the xml cache called umbraco.config that sites in the data directory.
When you request a page the http handler from the request does an xpath query on the xml cache and gets the xslt macros etc and gives you a page.
I have asked to Ismail and Warren Buckley about to use foreign folders. Warren told me for explain the question with full details and I will try to do this.
I have my localhost umbraco instalation works perfectly.
Here is:

And this is my currently folder strutucture (two example folder sites are marked/pointed):

the picture below show the path that I need to configure a folder in umbraco (note: the folders are in umbraco folder):

This picture below show how the configuration of folders must be:

or, can be like this:

or what other way can I use to solve this problem. We company sincerely liked much umbraco system, and would like to use it.
So, tx for Ismail, Warren and to all who are helping me in this post.
If its only images in those folders why not import them into umbraco using clienttools. Also why are you also recreating site1 2 etc in content tree? Are you trying to make an image gallery?
So dear friend, I can do this using clienttools, or use a image folder provided by umbraco. The point is, in our host-server we have many folders (where stay the files and images for sites of our clients). We need to keep this files and images where they are today, because each site have restriction about site size (principally the image files)
I'm simulating this host-server in my localhost machine, before to install in host-server.
In the host-server, we will to install the umbraco like this:
And each folder have your own image folder, which we would like to manage by umbraco.
Clienttools can be used for this?
Your past answers help me a lot, and I got to use images from foreign folders. However what I need is to set the path of a umbraco folder (like a created media folder) pointing to a image folder like "/siteone.com/images".
Client tools will not help with this. From your previous post I assumed I thought that maybe due to lack of experience with Umbraco you were trying to use images in umbraco but did not know you could import them in. In order to use these images you will need to create your own data type see here. This post may also prove useful

Ismail, tx for your reply.
However, I still have some doubts dear friend...
For example:
If I have 3 sites, and I want a distinct folder for each.
What's the way for do this? Is the same idea?
Can I have multiple keys "umbracoReservedPaths"?
Hey buddy, I know that my english is no good... lol... so, if you didn't understand something, tell me please.
Tx a lot for your help.

Ok Ismail,
let me see if I got It.
I have this structure:
c:\inetpub\wwwroot\
\site1.com
\site2.com
\site3.com
\umbraco
So, I can't control httpdocs of that sites using ?

Yes, you help-me a lot!!! =d>
I understood the the part about aspx files "they do not physically exist".
But, I can't do this:

?
And, this sentence:
update the node umbracoReservedUrls and add pages there
I didn't understand, can you show me a small example?
Tx so much dear friend, and sorry if I am bothering you.
Regards.
eduardo,
in the tag umbracoReservedPaths you can only put folder names that are accessible in the same install. So you would have

provided site1 2 and 3 folders all sit in same root folder as /umbraco eg you have you umbraco install in
c:\myumbraco\umbraco
and site1 2 and 3 in
c:\myumbraco
then this will work.
PLEASE NOTE c:\myumbraco is made up folder / path
Regards
Ismail
Tank you a lot Ismail.

I followed your steps and it solved the problem.
My folder structure is like this:
c:/inetpub/wwwroot
/umbraco
/site1/httpdocs/images
/site2/httpdocs/images
/site.../httpdocs/images
and I did this in the html from a page of my site:
THAT WORKS!
Ismail, can I choose a folder image for each site without having to directly change the html?
For example, in umbraco nodes:
site1.com
/images -- I want to configure the path to this folder in --> /site1/httpdocs/images
/news
/products
site2.com
site3.com
What need I do?
A new media type?
Very Tank's for all you have done big friend.

I chose to save the picture in the images folder of the first site:

Hi all.
I have the same problem of eduardo_lumen.
I have read the posts indicated by Ismail, but could not understand how this would help in this case.
Someone could give an example?
