HELP! S IT POSSIBLE TO BUILD A LEGAL CASE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM?
Hi all,
We are a charity organization and we are looking to
provide a legal case management system for the lawyers are helping us.
We are looking for an open source platfom, as some of our members are
involved in IT and sofware development, they will be able to help us.
We understand that a Legal Case Management system will be dificult to find, so we were thinking to use Umbraco as the engine.
Does anyone knows if we could build the following with Umbraco?
- Be able to create clients (with all the info) - Be able to create mater (with all the info) - Be able to create tasks for the lawyers - Be able to store documents for the tasks.
Any ideas will be more than welcome, as we have never used Umbraco or if you can give us some advice of how we can do it, at least the start point.
It's certainly possible to achieve all what you need with Umbraco, however like anything it's going to take some time and development, there are no simple plug-ins available that will create your site.
To give your developers an introduction to Umbraco and how it works I suggest the Umbraco TV free introduction videos
As Rich says, it is possible to do all that in Umbraco and if your members have .net skills then it is possibly the best solution for your needs.
However, if you have any Java skills available I would suggest Alfresco is a better solution as it has been designed as a platform to offer not only WCMS abilities but also EDRMS. I say this because I would not want to 'sell' you Umbraco only for it to cause you pain down the line and for you to then blame Umbraco.
I don't know your specific needs but having worked with Opentext EDRMS products for many years I know that Case Management is tricky and is a combination of Document Management, Project Management and CRM.

Welcome to the forum.

It might be worth breaking down each task, trying to get them working and post here when you have specifc problems.
