    Media section inconsistencies

If I upload images to a folder within the media section, and then click on the folder in the tree, then the image thumbnails show up in the right-hand 'contents' panel so I can easily see the folder contents. If I upload PDF's or other files then they don't show up in the 'contents' view - I don't understand? They appear in the tree, but shouldn't they also show up in the 'contents' panel with PDF or DOC icons in the same way that the images are showing their thumbnails? My clients upload files & images and then ask why some are showing up and some aren't - does this happen for other people?

    Hi,

The Folder Browser (the "datatype" that shows on the Contents panel of each Folder) only shows images (media that has thumbnails).  So by default PDFs, Docs, etc would not show up on it.  The files are there and selectable from the media picker, they just don't appear in the Folder Browser.  If you wanted you could make a custom datatype based on the Folder Browser that supports other types of media.

You might also check out the Child Nodes Browser package, which includes a datatype similar to the Folder Browser.  I'm not sure but it might show all types of files and not just images, although it probably doesn't show custom icons for each.

    Hope this helps,
    Tom

Child Nodes Browser does show all media types including folders.. It also ads buttons to the toolbar to allow easier navigation of the tree

It works for both media and content.

It was a custom package for a client so it also shows image thumbnails in the tree... this can be changed by editing the source (included on the package page)

The Child Nodes Browser package is just what I was after. Again the Umbraco community comes through with the goods. Thanks guys.
