Public access, single user access, select a member

    Hi

My website has a number of members already created and some pages need to be accessible only by one user.

I thought when I clicked "single user access" on the Public Access menu it would have given me a list of current members for me to select, but it actually asks for a user name and password.
I tried this and found it actually creates a member and a special prefixed membergroup, so it appears I would need to put a single user in it's own group to enable me to make this work.

This seems silly and I have searched the forums for as I thought it would be a common requirement to assign a single member to a page but I can't find anything, so I am wondering if any of you know if this can be done or if it has been done anywhere?

I think the answer is Umbraco is using group based permissions everywhere so it all has to be groups. (with the standard role provider)

If when you are putting in single user permissiosn you just put an exsiting username and leave the password blank, umbraco will use that user and create the group for you.

Thanks for both your answers Kevin! I thought I'd deleted this post as I figured it was in the wrong forum! It even said "post deleted" when I clicked delete!

I shall continue in this post: http://our.umbraco.org/forum/developers/extending-umbraco/25053-Public-Access,-Single-User-Protection-allowing-member-selection!?p=0#comment93002
