The default media picker of Umbraco only supports images. If you select a pdf it will try to display the thumbnail which of course is not availble. This is one of the reasons why I created DAMP. As you can see in this screenshot it will show a pdf icon when you select a pdf.
mediapicker shows broken image icon in backoffice
Hi,
For a News Article document type, if defined a newsImage and newsAttachement property, both using the Media Picker datatype.
However, for the newAttachement property, I get a broken image link in the backoffice when I choose a document like a .pdf or word document:
Should I use another datatype for a attaching a document to a news article?
Thanks for your advice,
Anthony

Hi Jeroen,
Aha, great tip. Well I guess it's time to use DAMP :)
Any place I can find documentation on how to use DAMP?
greetings,
Anthony
There are 2 video's you can watch:
An instruction video on how to install DAMP 2.0 and also use some samples.
A video on how I use DAMP in my own websites.
You can also download the Cultiv Razor Examples project. It's a complete Umbraco environment which has also uses DAMP.
