Upgraded from 4.5.2 to 4.7 Now can't login in IE but can in Chrome!

    Hello!

Pretty much as the title says!
I have just upgraded an umbraco installation to 4.7 from 4.5.2 following the upgrade procedure.
Only other thing is I have added nForum (the reason for the upgrade!).

The website is running on my local machine under IIS7 and everything works fine in Chrome but I can't login to umbraco in IE.

It seems to keep redirecting and I haven't got a clue what's going on.

Things I have tried (after reading other similar posts):

    • Setting umbracoTimeOutInMinutes to 9999
    • deleted all IE cookies and all other browsing history just incase
    • restarted my app pool
    • restarted my website

Anyone got any ideas at all?

    Hi Bex

That's very odd - I suppose you have tried multiple times ensuring you have just not made a typo in the password? Or the user name for that matter?

If so you should perhaps try to activate the development tool in IE to see if it perhaps some javascript that is not firing or something like that...

do you get the "dancing" red error boxes? Or what happens when trying to login?

    /Jan

    Hi Jan!

    Thanks for the quick response!

If I enter in the wrong username and pw I get the "dancing" red boxes.

If I go to "mysite.com/umbraco/login.aspx" and login with the right details it redirects to "mysite.com/umbraco/login.aspx?redir=%2fumbraco%2fumbraco.aspx"

Another thing to note, I also don't seem to be able to login to anything on the front end either, again it just redirects!

Everything is fine in Chrome and Firefox.

If it wasn't for the fact other umbraco websites are working fine in IE I'd say it was a problem with my settings, but it can't be!

I have tried running the development tool, but I'm not sure what I am looking for?

    Argh!

Ok.. now that is very very weird! I just put the site on a 2003 server to test it from there and it works in my IE!

Will test it on a 2008 server tommorrow with IIS 7 and see if that's the problem?

I have the exact same issue! .. It's really destroying my weekend >.<

All the logins work perfectly fine in FireFox/Chrome/Safari (yes.. even safari) but in IE which the majority of clients use, it simply redirects without logging in..

My setup is Windows Server 2008 R2 64x SP1 , I'm going to try it out on different setups, but if you find a solution Please tell me! :(

I've tried renaming the cookie from "yourAuthCookie" (read it in a different thread) and tried from various URLs, even server IP without any luck...

Edit: Whats really odd is that I CAN login to the umbraco backend in IE and any browser..

but in the frontend, both with standard .NET login forms or Lee's (www.blogfodder.co.uk) login form template it simply won't ...

Did you ever get the the bottom of this?

Once I put my site on to the server it worked fine there, but on my local PC it's still does the same and redirects.
It must be something to do with cookies or caching or something, but I don't have a clue!

Fortunately as it works on the live server it's not really a problem for me at the moment, but I would like to know what's causing it incase it happens again.
