I have Umbraco v. 4.9.0 installed and when it's running on localhost all seems to be fine..
I have restored the installation on the webserver at the host, but when I start publishing nodes, it show the asterisk on the node icon..?
I have tried to republish entire site, refresh the parent nodes, unpublish the node and published it again.. but the asterisk still is displayed on the node icon..
The node is published and I see the difference in the black and grey text color..
A fix is scheduled for 4.10 even though I'm hoping to see a patch release for this before that. It's really an annoying issue, which can cause a lot of confusion among regular editors and it's hard to explain them why this suddenly happens out of nowhere.
It isnt't a problem local, when I run the site with Webmatrix, so perhaps it's something related to the server settings.. the time settings on the server.. I am also using SQL Server 2008 R2, DAMP and MNTP where the problem seems to occur more frequently as mentioned in one of the comments..
I hope there soon will be a fix for this although I am able to see the difference between published and unpublished nodes (black og grey text)..
but yes it's very confusion with the asterisk when then node actually is published..
Yes the bug is weird since it's not consistent across platforms. I think it's related to the speed of the computer somehow. So on faster machines it's not happening and on more slow machines it is happening. I have faith the some of the bright core developers manage to fix it within next release :)
Okay.. perhaps it then is because it's faster to publish the nodes on localhost than on the webserver, that I don't have the issue when running the site local.
Let us hope this is fixed in the next release.. :)

Hi Bjarne
This is a known bug in 4.9, which has been reported multiple times. This seems to be the "master" issue: http://issues.umbraco.org/issue/U4-387
