You don't need Web Matrix. Download the latest release, unzip to a folder of your choice, create a website in IIS that points to the extracted files, open your browser and follow the install.
Web Matrix is good for beginners or those who don't have access to VS/SQL Server/IIS etc.
Thanks so much. I've done that and all seems to have worked!
Just one more thing though...
I've chosen not to install a starter kit as I want to learn from scratch, so my project is empty. Should I create my master page in VS and then copy&paste it into the Umbraco editor? or am I supposed to write/edit the aspx pages directly in the Umbraco editor?
It's up to you. Some people work in VS and have a post build script that copies pages over to an Umbraco installation, some people work directly in the Umbraco back office.
Do I need webmatrix?
Hi,
Please help me. I'm a absolute newbie, and can't seem to get started at all. I am pretty good with webforms and VS2010, but none of this makes sense!
Do I actually need webmatrix? Is this what most people use or just those who dont have Visual Studio?
I have VS2010 so shall I use that and ditch webmatrix?
Thanks,
Richard
