    References (citations)

A site for a scientific organisation wants  to be able to add a reference/citation to any facts it states in its text. They want a manageable list of references/citations, and when one is refered to in some text, to be able to place a little icon that, when hovered over, pops up a modal that has the reference/citation title, and a link to the actual reference page on the web, as well as a link to the full list of references/citations on this website.

I ideally they would click a button whilst editing text in the richtext editor, and select the reference item (presumably a doctype) they are referring to. A macro/xslt would then insert the appropriate code to present the hover over popup and links.

However, I would like to know if the "click a button and select the reference (doctype) they are referring to" is possible in umbraco, or if there is approach others would take?

    Thanks in advance,

    JJ
