I have tried to create a url alias called 'puppets' for a particular article. However, this url gives a 404 error.
I don't have any other articles with a url alias of 'puppets'. so I tried emptying the recycle bin in case one of the articles in there was using that alias. There were 4000 articles in the recycle bin but even though I have successfully emptied it, the 404 error continues.
I have been told that the url may appear twice in the database. I'm not familiar with the umbraco database setup, so I am hoping someone can please tell me which database table to look in to find the url alias information.
Hi, yes if I write another name the alias works. It is only that particular alias that doesn't work. I have seen this problem once before with another alias. Our site was managed by a different developer then and they fixed the problem for me -- they said they had found a duplicate in the database.

Ok, do you have some other pages somewhere in the content tree that has the same name? Looking in the DB is not neccesarily advisable to do...so I'm thinking if you can see another page with the same name that is where we start.
Hi Jan, no I don't have any pages with the same name. I have gone through them carefully. Then I tried to fix the problem by emptying the recycle bin, but still no luck.
It seems my only recourse is to look in the DB. But which table contains the information I need?

Hi Margaret
Does the alias work if you write another name? Or does that give a 404 as well?
/Jan
