I want to change user permissions for an editor in the Users/User permissions menu. There are some checkboxes under the parts of the site I want to give them access to that are greyed out, and I think it's because they have only a "Save and Send for Approval" icon for these parts. If I check these greyed out checkboxes and try to Save the user permissions, the screen hangs with a progress bar that doesn't go anywhere.
So I think I need to get them to Save and Send for Approval. The problem is I have no idea what happens to the content once they do this. I've asked them to do this with a piece of content, but have looked at that same content in my backend and there's no "Approve" icon or the like, and the content remains greyed out in the directory. I really have no idea how to get around this. What do I need to do to update their user permissions, and save them, and make sure they don't need to keep sending stuff for approval (not that I know where it goes once they do send it for approval anyway).
If a user has save and send for approval, if any users have subscribed to content alerts for the pages/sections that were edited, then they'll get an email telling them that there is a chnage awaiting approval with a link to approve it.
In real terms, all that happens is that the content is saved, and then someone has to "approve" it by publishing it.
If you want to set up a user to get all of the alerts, set them up with content alerts on the home page node, and they'll get alerts for all of the pages on the site.
Thanks Jan and Tim. I've sorted it out - I didn't realise the approval was funnelled to the admin's email address. Turns out the admin email address hadn't been redirected to my work one, so all the approval requests were ... .I dunno, firing off into cyberspace somewhere!
I've got it sorted now. I'm just going to get this person to send all the greyed out content pages to me for approval, change permissions therein and they can govern the pages themselves after that.

Hi Tom and welcome to our :)
What version of Umbraco are you using?
And would it be possible for you to send some screendumps displaying the above issues? I think that will make it easir to understand your issue.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
/Jan
