    IE6 crashing

    Hi,

this is not specifically an Umbraco issue but I'm hoping someone  will be able to help.

I'm just testing the following website:

    http://ft.mhsc.nhs.uk

which is an umbraco installation running the CWS. During initial testing I've had a few users reporting mutiple crashes when using IE6.

I've tested many times myself but have had no problems. The only difference that I could determine was that they don't have flash installed and I do.

I've since removed all SIFR from the site and the only flash is the homepage video.  I've not got the users to re-test since doing this.

I'd be grateful if someone could give the site a quick browse using IE6 and see if they experience any issues, or have any ideas as to what could cause the crashes of IE6.

The flash movie on the home page plays without incident on my setup (WinXP/IE6) What version of Flash are you running, checking for and/or enforcing?

Flash alone shouldn't cause unexpected IE6 crashes -- I use it heavily on a number of sites. My first suspect is the enabling javascript. I can't testify, however, for flowplayer. Have you tried other flash players?

I had tried JW player but went with flowplayer (although not sure why now).

Apparently crashes occured on other pages such as: http://ft.mhsc.nhs.uk/the-consultation-process.aspx which has never contained any Flash.

The only Javascript on this page is now Google analytics, although previously it contained the AddThis plugin.

I will have to get the users to try testing again.

I've used flowplayer on a number of projects without any IE6 crashing issues, so I suspect the problem may be elsewhere, or at least not entirely attributable to that.

I think I've discovered the problem. It seems it was caused by the AddThis plugin which allows users to do various things with the page such as sending it to a friend, adding it to digg, etc.

I looked into it and it seems a few people had experienced the same problem.
