One of the editors of our site has been having issues updating content in the Umbraco WYSIWYG editor - they're unable to create a link or insert an image. Trying to nail this problem over the phone, I worked out they couldn't double-click highlight a word to insert a link; they were forced to place the cursor over a word, drag to highlight - but even then, the Link icon, though not greyed out, didn't fire if they clicked it. Ditto the Image icon.
After isolating the browser and version to IE9, then replicating the problem on my own machine on IE10, I quickly worked out it had to be an IE problem. Hell, when isn't something an IE problem? I've asked the editor to use Firefox from hereon in, at least until I work out what's going on - FF and Chrome have no problems in this area.
However, the perfectionist in me really wants to find a user-centric solution here so the editor can use their browser of choice. I've walked through all the IE options in the settings menu - I thought it may have been a pop up issue, as IE blocks pop ups by default, and a lot of these insert screens in Umbraco are overlays. But I've allowed pop ups in IE settings, and I still can't insert links or images.
Does anyone know of any WYSIWYG text field issues relating to IE in Umbraco?
What version of Umbraco are you using? I know TinyMCE had some problems with IE9 in older versions, but upgrading to the latest Umbraco version fixed it.
Right, that could be it. We're on v4. It's a corporate install, and doesn't look like being updated anytime soon. I'll tell editors to use another browser.
