Got an existing 452 site it recently went down. Site is back up however get no nodes published error. So logged into backend and tried to republish xml cache nothing happens. in the umbraco log iget
Xml wasn't saved: System.Xml.XmlException: Invalid XML document, The document does not have a root element.. at System.Xml.XmlDocument.Save(String filename) at umbraco.content.PersistXmlToFile(XmlDocument xmlDoc)
I put a blank xml config file with just root node then tried to republish it gets removed but no new one gets created
What I also tried is un published everything. Then just published the home page still no joy. Permissions are all correct. Its umbraco 452 running on windows2012 also latest version of sql server. Site is running under iis8 .net4 integrated also tried it as classic app pool, running under network service.

Did you try the magic /umbraco/republish.aspx?xml=true thingie? Ok, that's not an answer, but will hopefully restore your site...
Dirk,
Yup no joy. I also tried this link

Hello,
Did some searching and maybe this can help: http://our.umbraco.org/forum/core/general/11175-Unable-to-publish#comment41136
Perhaps it's not a problem with the umbraco.config xml file, but another xml file. The acces.config or umbracosettings.config for example.
