    Reason of 404 error page?

    Greetings!

I'm new to Umbraco CMS, so keep in mind that i could ask pretty stupid things here.

My question is about - how to find out what is an actual reason of getting a 404 error?
For example I have created a new page and published entire website, after going to properties and selecting "Link to document" or "Alternative Links" hyperlink.

    And I'm getting 404.

    Page not found

No umbraco document matches the url 'https://localhost/xxx/www'.

This page can be replaced with a custom 404. Check the documentation for "custom 404".

This page is intentionally left ugly ;-)

That's is sure that I'm missing some configuration or access rights or even something else, but anyway, how or where can I get some additional (helpful) information about the error reason?

    Thanks a lot!

Hi Alex, welcome to Our Umbraco!

Does the page have a template associated with it? If it doesn't then that might cause the 404 error.

    Cheers,
    - Lee

    Hello Lee!

Templates seems to be ok, one of them is applied to my page.

Even if I try to remove template from my page I'm getting the same results.

    Hi Alex,

I'm wondering if there might be a file permissions issue - can you check if you have a file called /App_Data/umbraco.config?

If so, see if you can open that up in a text editor and check if it has any contents.

    Thanks,
    - Lee

    Sorry for the late answer!

Yes, this file exists and it's filled with my webpage's data.
Shall I copy / paste it here or it won't ne helpfull?

    Thanks for your time!

    Hi Alex,

No need to paste the contents, I was more curious if the file was being created/updated. Just wanting to rule out file-permission issues.

Not sure what else to suggest at the moment... does this apply to all pages or just the new one that you've created? It's worth checking the /App_Data/Logs/UmbracoTraceLog.txt file, see if that contains any errors specific to the 404 page.

    Cheers,
    - Lee

Currently I have only one page, so I cant test other.
I also thought that could be a permission issue, but I have granted full access to everyone for solution directory and IIS.

About logs, that's interesting, but they all are empty log files.
