    Content Encoding Error

I began getting this error when trying to access some of my media items in the backoffice:

    Content Encoding Error
The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because it uses an invalid or unsupported form of compression.

I cleared my cache, tried several browsers and the error continues.  It does not occur on all items, just some and some that have been in media for over a year. Why would this come up now and how do I fix it?

    Hi Connie

What version of Umbraco are you using?

Has anything changed on the server, updates, modifications, anything? Is there enough space on the disk?

    Umbraco v.4.7.0

It's possible we recently ran all the Windows updates recently in order to fix the issue of IE11 not being recognized by the .NET 4.0 framework.

    Disk space is plentiful.

I just tried on our dev server, which I am pretty sure did not get the Windows updates, and now those same media items (jpgs) are throwing this error:

String was not recognized as a valid DateTime.

However, I did just upgrade .NET to 4.5.1 on that server (to address the IE11 issue).

    Hi Connie

Not sure if it might be due to the update to .NET 4.5?

It should be able to fix it following either the solution in the post of Dennis Aaen or the one by Bob at the bottom from this post http://our.umbraco.org/forum/developers/extending-umbraco/46529-umbraco-47-member-login-not-works-in-IE11

That way one does not need to upgrade .NET 4.0.

However I don't know if it's possible for you to downgrade and if that will fix the issue you're currently seing unfortunately. But I'd be happy to learn more.

    Are you using CropUp btw?

    /Jan

We actually tried that .browser "hack" and it seemed to work on one computer but not the other.

In looking through some posts here, I think this issue, at least the DateTime issue, is fixed in Umbraco 4.11. I need to see if we can get our servers at least upgraded to the latest v.4 version.
