    Friendly Urls (Plesk Shared Hosting)

    Hi Guys,

Just wondering if anyone has had any luck configuring Umbraco 4.0.2.1 to use Friendly Urls under a Plesk shared hosting enviroment? (as per the wiki, http://our.umbraco.org/wiki/install-and-setup/setting-up-umbraco-for-friendly-urls)

I'm not having any luck finding out how to setup the wild card mapping, verify file exists option.

    Kind Regards

    Evan

    Hey,
today I asked my Provider (DomainBox, Germany) where this options are and if it's possibly to do it over the plesk-front-end.

    The Anwser:
This URL Rewriting-Settings is incompatible with plesk-front-end (9.3). It would only work with a dedicate Server.

    What a pity!

    rock on, stevo

Which version of IIS are you running and under which pipeline (classic or integrated if IIS7)?  I assume if you're having problems it's under iis 6 or 5.  Do you have any access to IIS settings in plesk?   If nothing see if they can upgrade you to 7 or look for another host. I generally recommend Discountasp.net for shared hosting.

In my case the hosting provider made the changes I needed after some explanation. The changes can't be made from the Plesk front end but the host can make the changes directly on the server.

    Evan,

Can you explain how you described the issue to your host provider and what they needed to do to get things running (app pool pipeline, wildcard mapping etc)?  It might help others in talking to their hosting provider when they run into a similar situation.

Sure Chris. It was a while ago now...

I only had the problem when my sites were running on IIS6.

Basically I explained what I was trying to achieve then asked them if they could check some seettings for me in IIS which they were happy to do. Just make sure you are dealing with their IIS guru to make it easier!

Then as per the wiki (http://our.umbraco.org/wiki/install-and-setup/setting-up-umbraco-for-friendly-urls) I instructed them to follow the steps listed to add the wildcard mapping to the aspnet_isapi.dll.

I was lucky when my sites were upgraded to to IIS7 there wasn't any issues with directory urls.

    Cheers
    Evan
