i would like to know if its possible to have a 1-1 mapping with a multilingual website. Let says i have 8 different language type and insteand of being redirected to the default homepage of the website am redirected to the same page but under a different language version.
you said "HQ is also working on 1 - 1 mapping, but that is still in early development".
How early? :)
I'm using umbraco for big store with more than 1500 products and handling 1500*X languages is not my first choice, 1:1 solution is more reasonable but I'm having I'm not sure how I can 'remember' the user language while he is navigating the website.
When he is choosing a language its not a problem:
but when he navigate to another page- how can I remember this last user choice?
I have a problem with vorto- If I change any of document type properties to vorto property It became blank. I will have to copy-paste from RTE to Vorto Property 1500 products...
Multilingual website with 1 - 1 mapping
Hi Guys,
i would like to know if its possible to have a 1-1 mapping with a multilingual website. Let says i have 8 different language type and insteand of being redirected to the default homepage of the website am redirected to the same page but under a different language version.
Something like
http://mywebsite.com/en/contactus click on the flag for dk version http://mywebsite.com/dk/kontatk
Any idea on how to achieve this ? any suggestions ?
You might want to have a look at this package: http://our.umbraco.org/projects/backoffice-extensions/polyglot. It's also compatible with v7 and there is a video: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x197yds_polyglot-package-for-umbraco-tutorial_tech
I know that the HQ is also working on 1 - 1 mapping, but that is still in early development.

Thanks Jeroen, will surely have a look and try it out.

I hope it one of this HQ mapping work :)
There is a branch called variantions where they have a proof of concept, but it will likely change and isn't production ready: https://github.com/umbraco/Umbraco-CMS/tree/7.1.3-variations
Jeroen
You can also use the Vorto to have 1-on-1 multilingual sites : http://our.umbraco.org/projects/backoffice-extensions/vorto

hi Jeroen, is there a wiki page or something where I can read up on how Variations will work? thanks a lot
hi andrew, this Umbraco Variations and Segments Overview Niels Hartvig overview might be helpful for you... But I think that because its not close production ready yet, ther is no wiki pages about it.
hello - does anyone have an update on where Variations (aka 1:1 multilingual sites) are on the roadmap? thanks
I haven't head from it for a while. It's probably still pretty far away.
Jeroen
Hi Jeroen,
Just for your information, they are working on it now, and it seems to come in Umbraco 7.3 http://issues.umbraco.org/issue/U4-5390

Hello,
Variants and Segments are currently planned for Umbraco 8: https://our.umbraco.org/contribute/releases/800
I've created an example which uses 1-1 multilingual. So a single node can have different URLs per language.
You can find more info here: https://our.umbraco.org/projects/developer-tools/1-1-multilingual-example/
