What type of changes do you have to make to the site?. Can you please try to explain more. I have tried to describe what changes that you can do outside the Umbraco backend.
If it to content of the site you should be able to login to the Umbraco backend by this url: http://www.yourdomain.com/umbraco/ after visited that page, you should get a login screen, then you can login if you have a user in the backend for Umbraco.
If it´s change to templates or XSLT files you can do it on the desk. The files is located as physical files. on your file system. If you need to do changes to document types, add new files or document types or template, and so on you need to be able to login to the backend of your Umbraco installation.
Hope this helps, and looking forward to hear from you.
As I mention, I am very new to my company, so first of all I have to create new testing enviornment for the website. But when I tried to create new enviornment it gives me installation error.
Below is the first screen that I am getting.
When I clicked on Install Umbraco 5.1 , It giving me below error.
I am able to change in my live website with login into Umbraco backend. But I need to follow the process.
First I have to make changes in the test enviornment , once it will approved then I am allowed to change in live enviornment.
My problem is I am not able to create testing enviornment for my website.
Can you take a backup of the db and website of your live environment and restore that on your local machine. That should get you up and running with the same Umbraco environment locally.
But if your still running Umbraco 5 maybe it's time to rebuilt the site in a newer and supported version of Umbraco. Umbraco 5 got cancelled over 2 years ago if I am correct. So it will be hard to find support and help for that.
Okay, I don´t if this could be an option for you. But, one way I see that you could do it, is by taking a backup of the database from your live enviornment, and a copy the files on the system. Then paste in the files to your new testing enviornment, and restore the database from the live enviornment.
Remember to change the connectionsstring to the database. so it match your new testing enviornment. Then if you creates new document types, templates, XSLT and Razor files in your new testing enviornment, then you can make a package with the new things.
I haveevenexperienced to synchronize content can be a whole different story if you need that after you have taken a backup of your. If your client are working on the website content on the same time when you are developing new things.
I have also hear about people who say to the client there are a freeze periode, when they are developing new features, and then if they make some new templates and document types and so on they are created them in all their enviornments.
I did the same thing. I took the backup of live enviornment and try to replicate on my machine. but as i mentioned in my first post that some one deleted the Install folder from the project :( . that's why I am struglling at the moment. I couldn't find installation on Umbraco's website because they have cancelled V5 over 3 years ago.
Without a look at your web.config it will be hard to tell.
But like I pointed out. I would a suggest to rebuild your site to a newer version of Umbraco. This version is not supported and it will be hard to get any support from the community.
Also time you will invest learning is just wasted time.
As Dave says above you really should start over using another version of Umbraco since Umbraco 5 got canned due to some serious bugs that affected performance etc.
It's no longer supported by the HQ nor the community.
If you're just starting out learning Umbraco by all means please download the latest version of Umbraco 7.1.8 - I'm not even sure where you got hold of version 5 btw? :)
I don't hope you have based a project on v5 already. If so I think it's worth considering a migration to the latest version instead since continuing will be a waste of time as Dave also points out.
If it's because you want to do MVC then that should not hold you back since 7.1.8 is running MVC out of the box as well.
I know its hard to get any support for this version but I have been hired in this company to maintain the website which is aready built. so there is no point ot rebuild the website in latest version.
I think that you should tell your boss that you should try to convince the customer go invest in upgrading Umbraco since it's a product that got officially canned by the HQ during CodeGarden 2012 and HQ does no longer support it.
In the future it can be hard to do new development in the site and extend it - There is also a risk of performance issues revealing themselves at some point.
And as you already figured out it's going to be really hard to get some proper support regarding a version 5 solution, which means you're perhaps going to spend / waste a lot of time figuring out all kinds of stuff by yourself and in the end your client could end up spending a lot of money on something that does not provide any value to their business.
I know that it's not necessarily easy to get the message through but I think it's worth giving it a shot.
Looking forward to hear if you manage to succeed convincing your boss / client about this.

Hi Dennis,
I did the same thing Dennis, but its not work for me because someone deleted Install folder form the main project.
:(
Priyanka
Hi Priyanka,
Did you also restore your database on a local environment and updated your connectionstring to point to this local database like dennis pointed out ?
Dave
Hi Dave,
Yes I did it. I did restore database and changed connectionstring to my local machine.
Priyanka
Can you post your web.config to see if see some odd things ?
Hi Dave, Dannise
I have changed my connectionstring in my webconfig file. Do I need to change anything else in config file ?
Thanks,
Priyanka

Hi Priyanka,
I found a github repo with Umbraco 5 site : https://github.com/asapostolov/Umbraco-5-Smallsite/tree/master/Website/Areas/Install
Maybe you can get the install folder from there.
Dave
Hi Dave,
I know its hard to get any support for this version but I have been hired in this company to maintain the website which is aready built. so there is no point ot rebuild the website in latest version.
:(
Priyanka
I think you should convince your bosses that a rebuild is needed. There are enough valid reasons for that.
Dave
Hi Dave,
I have found the Install folder from that github link.
But can you please help me how can I copy that folder ?
https://github.com/asapostolov/Umbraco-5-Smallsite/tree/master/Website/Areas ;
Thanks
Priyanka

Dave

Glad to help you out. Even it's Umbraco 5. Don't forget to mark this post as a solution just in case someone comes along with the same problem.
