umbracoDefaultUILanguage does not change anything for me

Today I updated and downloaded the language files for Polish, named it "pl.xml" and placed it in the umbraco/config/lang folder the place where other language versions reside. Unfortunately my successes end here :) Changing the prefered language in the browser settings is only as effective as showing right messages on the http://localhost/umbraco/login.aspx - but now even if I change the preferred language back to en or any other the login screen still shows up in Polish. The Umbraco UI stays in english no matter what I do - change the preferred browse language, set the umbracoDefaultUILanguage to "pl" in the web.config file, removing other language files and leaving only Polish (results in showing a little bit of Danish - or so I think - and [something] in most cases).
Ok - stupid question of a newbie.. I had to change the culture of the user (admin in my case). Unfortunately the culture doesn't affect the section icons but all the rest works fine.
