Editors can edit and publish content, and readers can only browse content.
The DistA users have their top node set to "Distributor A" and same thing for DistB users.
Now, lets say that I want to let DistAUser2 do a bit more on the Distributor A page. I do this:
1: Rightclick the Distributor A page and select permissions 2: Put a couple checks in DistAUser2's row 3: Save permissions
Here comes the trouble. When I now decide that DistAUser1 should no longer be an editor, but just a reader, and change his role to "Content reader", then he still has the Content Editor permissions on the Ditributor A node. Why? Because when I changed permissions for DistAUser2, then it save all the users permissions explicitly for that node, overriding all users default permissions, and essentially setting the whole Role concept out of play.
So the question is, can we do something different with this window, or should you just not use the Permissions window when working with roles at the same time?
Using the Permissions window
Hey everyone. Just wanted to run something by you to see if I am misunderstanding the usage of the Permissions dialog.
Scenario is this. I have some content:
Content
- Distributor A
- Distributor B
And some users with roles:
DistAUser1 (Content editor)
DistAUser2 (Content reader)
DistBUser1 (Content editor)
DistBUser2 (Content reader)
Editors can edit and publish content, and readers can only browse content.
The DistA users have their top node set to "Distributor A" and same thing for DistB users.
Now, lets say that I want to let DistAUser2 do a bit more on the Distributor A page. I do this:
1: Rightclick the Distributor A page and select permissions
2: Put a couple checks in DistAUser2's row
3: Save permissions
Here comes the trouble. When I now decide that DistAUser1 should no longer be an editor, but just a reader, and change his role to "Content reader", then he still has the Content Editor permissions on the Ditributor A node. Why? Because when I changed permissions for DistAUser2, then it save all the users permissions explicitly for that node, overriding all users default permissions, and essentially setting the whole Role concept out of play.
So the question is, can we do something different with this window, or should you just not use the Permissions window when working with roles at the same time?
Looking forward to your input.
