well, hmm, xslt is quite important, but can be completely ignored if you're used to building user controls :P. Depends on your xslt skills whether to decide what suits best for you, choice is competely up to you.
If you need register/login forms, have a look at the standard asp.net login controls, as umbraco runs on asp.net, it should be a breeze to integrate those in your templates.

Now im clear on "Document Types" and "Templates"... Im also working on xslt currently......
I need to make a register form and a log In form, make to work in my website.... How to do this??
And I need to know how important is xslt, in Umbraco4!!....
