So would exporting it to a text or xml file and then the ability to import the configuration be what you are after? It's of course 'handle with care' as you might create havoc with existing content if you do this, but I'm sure you want to use this only for setting up a copy of an existing EC instance?
I want to use it to copy existing instance into new site.
But later, I realized that it will be nice if it is possible to export settings of any data type, with similar function which already exists on document types. Or if exporting document type can export settings of it's datatypes too.
