I am using the 'NewsletterStudio.PropertyEditors.Sendout' datatype to send emails from within the Content tree in Umbraco.
I have watched the video on your website (based on Umbraco v6) that shows how you can specify an alternative template for a newsletter by creating a template with the same name as the content node document type and appending the word 'Newsletter' to the end of the name.
The video goes on to show that the newsletter can be previewed by clicking a 'Preview' button to check that the correct template is being picked up.
I am using Umbraco v7 and NewsletterStudio v2.1.1, so my question is:
Does my version of NewsletterStudio support preview for
newsletters created inside a content node?
I have created a newsletter inside a content node using the method described above but I cannot preview it. Also, when I perform a test send, the email I recieve is using the content node document type template and not the special 'Newsletter' template I created.
Please let me know if you need any further information.
Currently preview in Newsletter Studio 2+ is only available in the Newsletter Studio-section due to some challenges with security for content editors that don't have access to the custom section. We have this in the backlog and it will be included in the future but I can't say when.
You can of course preview the result by going to the umbraco node url and use your template (?altTemplate=yada) or by schedule the email and look in the Newsletter Studio-section.
You might need to adjust your Umbraco settings to support the alt template. What version of Umbraco 7 are you running? Do you know if this has been disabled? Do you use any custom stuff for the routing?
Thanks for the quick reply Markus, this is really helpful.
I've got users that I would prefer not to have access to the Newsletter Studio section so having them be able to send emails directly from the content section is a fantastic feature and the user experience is great too. I especially like the way the stats are shown after the send is complete.
Thanks for the tip about using the (?altTemplate=) query string, I think I can work with this and perhaps use some javascript or something to inject a custom 'preview' button into the UI. I'll have a play with it and see what I can work out.
Thanks again for your help and keep up the good work!
Just to add on the Phil's request, the preview in content section in v7, like in the older version, is very much in demand as I get asked by users.
Currently the preview in NS section does run the tasks like inliner for them to test, but they dont want to see all other newsletters and content section makes a better use case for them.
It would be great if this feature can be prioritized as the use case is asked more frequently.
