On some newsletters I'm getting this error when people click on the [unsubscribe] link: "Could not remove the e-mail. It's either already removed or something is wrong with the configuration. Please contact the web site administrator."
Other newsletters work fine, sent to the same mailing list.
Does anyone have a clue as to where to start looking to fix this?
Nevermind. Turns out my client mailed to a new mailinglist, and then removed the mailinglist from the system. So all unsubscribe links now give the error.
Thinking about this issue, maybe we should show a more friendly message in these scenarios? Since they are deleted we could confirm with “email removed” I guess? Would that be a improvement if this happens again?
I agree, the best thing for the user would be to just get a confirmation that he/she is unsubscribed.
There is however a bigger problem that my client ran into. He has a main mailing list that people subscribe to via the website. He then created a new mailing list based upon whether or not people had clicked on a certain link in an email. When mailing to this newly created list, the unsubscribe link in those emails are for the newly created list.
In my case this list had been removed after the mailing, so it caused errors, but that is besides the point.
What would make sense to me is that since this newly created list exists of people from the main list, they should be unsubscribed from the main list instead. That is after all what they signed up for. This would probably mean you will have to create some kind of relationship between certain mailing lists.
I understand that this is not how Newsletter Studio was created. But maybe something to think about when creating a new version for Umbraco v8 (if you're planning on doing that)?
I hope this is clear. If not, please say so, and I'll try to rephrase the problem.
