    Combing vorto, dictionary items, and multiple websites?

    Lets say I want to have a french version of my website. I have a few questions:

    1. Can I combine vorto with dictionary items?
    2. Can I combine vorto with another root website (the french one) for example)?
    3. How do I decide between using vorto or creating a new root website? I know creating a new root website means I have to maintain another version and I use courier so that means I have to do more transfers. Also, I am most likely going to end up with 15 languages.
    4. When I look at a template, when should I use vorto as opposed to just a dictionary item? Are dictionary items good for static content for example?
    5. Is it better to depend on the browser to detect language or have a language picker? I see some browsers get specific with the languages like FR-fr and FR-ca. I don't really want to get specific, I just want French for example.

    Hello,

    Dictionary items are already multilingual so why do you want to use Vorto with that?

    Hi Jeroen,

    Maybe my question was confusing. Are you saying that I would create a dictionary item for each language I want?

    What I really meant to ask was what kind of content is suitable for dictionary items?

    Dictionary items are usually used for labels. For example the text above a textbox on a contact form.

    If you add a language in Umbraco that language will become available on the dictionary item. More info here: http://24days.in/umbraco/2013/the-dictionary-secrets/

    So,

    For long text, it probably is not suitable like the kind you would find on an About Us page?

    Correct. For long text on the about page it's better to use Vorto in combination with the RTE.
