Fantastic Product for Content Tree - Thoughts About Media Library?
Richard,
I have had an opportunity to choose the CM Dashboard quite extentsively in cleaning up our site. It's a fantastic program, invaluable in my opinion, a huge contribution to the Umbraco community. I have saved many hours of time cleaning up and reorganizing our tree that I could not have done otherwise.
We're on 4.7.1. I understand that a new Media Library was created in 4.9.0 and that in 6.0, there have been more changes that make the Media Library behave more like Content.
Do you know if, at this time, Umbraco natively supports moving multiple media nodes from one part of the media tree to another in either in 4.9 or 6.0?
Is there a possibility or do you have on the drawing board a "Media Tree Dashboard" that works like the CM dashboard.
Great idea Richard Barg - I feel it is a missing feature in Umbraco. Are you a developer yourself and if so would you consider contributing to the development of such a package?
I have to say I have found it curious that Umbraco HQ touts the user-friendly aspects of its products vis-a-vis other CMS products, yet is (has been) missing two very basic features associated w/file management: Copying and moving muliple nodes and displaying full paths for nodes in the content area. Of course CM dashboard bridges the gap and I wonder why they don't build it into the core.
Another feature request is to uncheck by default the checkbox: "Search in Content (slower". Currently the box is checked or perhaps make it a configurable setting.
+1 Telling clients to multiple delete and then re-upload doesnt really cut it :( I'm sure this is being addressed in belle, but it would be super nice to have in Content Maintenance Dashboard package. Where can we donate to such a cause?
Sorry the forum unscribed me from this topic so it's the first time I see this post. Supporting media and more is on the radar for this package. In fact the whole package will be revisited it was once a small package to help me test CMSImport. That's why the UI is horrible :). The new version will be Freemium like some of my other packages but also with a lot of options to maintain content, media and members.
Sorry for the late reply and the feature is still missing but will be in soon.
Sorry for the delay. Progress is being made but converting all packages to V7 is taking longer than expected. Should not take too long before a first release which will also work on V7. Which will work on both Content and media, but for now sorry for the delay.
@Soeteman As we all wait w/great anticipation for the newest version, here is another feature request. It would be great if, when you rolled over one of the returned results, it displayed the Link (URL) associated w/it. ex.
"Link to document thttp://bios.surgery.ucsf.edu/general-surgery/breast-care-surgery.aspx"
Then if your documents have identical names, ours do, we have multiple sites w/child nodes having the same name, this provides a quick way to distinguish them.
Finally I think the successor of Content maintenance dashboard is good enough for a V1. I've already added Bulkmanager to the site http://soetemansoftware.nl/bulkmanager
You can check-out the video's and download the free edition. The free edition allows you to bulk update content, bulk updating media and members is supported in the licensed version. I'm more than happy to give you a trial.
Hope you like V1 and more features such as bulk change document type vor Umbraco V6 and V7 coming up soon.
This is awesome news. I've just been looking for bulk media management and it took me a while to find the information contained in this post. Richard, you should add it to the packages section to make it easier to find (I couldn't see it anywhere in there).
@jonok I would agree but new commercial products are not allowed to be added to the packages section. Hope http://soetemansoftware.nl/bulkmanager will be a popular link soon :)
@Jason - I am using Bulk Manager and can confirm that columns of results are sortable A-Z.
@ Ricard However there is no visual indicator they can be sorted in the UI until you actually do a sort, which is a bit of a Catch-22 for the uninitiated. It also requires you to an A-Z sort before you can do a Z-A sort.
Did you mean in the UI or helping with sorting Content and media nodes as an action to execute? If the first see the reply from Richard (always room to improve I will apply a visual indicator on sort when showing the results).
If you need an action to sort items in the tree that could be implemented easily. I have thought about it but what would you want to see when sorting (property and nodename based?, including children or not? only per document type?) Would love to hear your thoughts when you need this.

I'm not a programmer although our programmer did develop an enhancement for http://our.umbraco.org/projects/backoffice-extensions/umultideletecontent
I also noted the following post that had to do w/the now abandoned Version 5 but is relevant here:

Another vote for this functionality!
Also, if we can manage the recyle bins that would be great!
Thanks

Richard,
CMD is one of our go to products. We look forward to the new version and would also consider the paid version. We owe you bigtime.
Richard
Absolutely agree. Another important package you've produced. Happy to pay for the premium features.
Thanks guys!
@RichardSoeteman Just checking in - any news on the media library equivalent of CMD?
Hi Richard,
It's in the planning. Hoping to have a first real release within 3 months.
Cheers,
Richard
Hi Richard,
Any update on the Media Library equivalent of CMD?

Sounds great. We would like a trial of the full version. Please advise on how we can do that. Thanks.
Hi Richard,
If you can send an email to [email protected] with the domain you want to test it on, I'll generate one for you.
Thanks,
Richard

Compare the attached images bulk manager vs this link http://naffzigersociety.com/membership_directory/, a site I created in WordPress where you can see the indicators from the outset.
Thanks!

Sounds like has what we would need. We found a solution to our initial problem, but will definitely be using this in the future!
Thanks,
Jason
