I've installed the package on Umbraco v 7.2.6 and I've found a few issues.
1) The 'Auto approve comments:' setting in the Smart Blog Management interface doesn't work, either on or off, comments always get posted.
2) The Comment form doesn't have any validation control, so you can enter whatever you like, invalid email addresses etc. Also, the security question is always the same 'what is 2+2?'
3) The list of names under Authors only shows Luke Alderton, it doesn't show the names of the new authors.
4) 'Disable Facebook integration on comment form': in the Smart Blog Management interface doesn't work, either on or off the button is still present on the comment form.
5) When adding a blog post it can be assigned to different categories, but there doesn't seem to be a way of adding categories to the list.
6) When adding a blog post the date field enters the current date and time i.e. '2015-06-26 12:33:48', but it throws an error when I try and save and publish the page, it doesn't say what the error is, it just highlights the date field "Property has errors". The only way to remove the error is to truncate the date/time to just the date i.e. 2015-06-26
If the errors above can be fixed we would use it on our production site.
Luke, do you think you can look in to these issues soon?
I've just created a new version of SmartBlog with a few changes and improvements, mainly with the comments system but I've also added in an archive to the right aside.
I think that the settings in the back end may require an application restart after they've changed, I will have a look into this in the future.
The security question is a basic one I admit but it keeps most spam out, it can easily be changed if you need it to be.
I've fixed the issue with the Author list.
You can add categories by editing the data type in the Developers section of the back office.
I'm not sure what's causing your date time issue but I can't replicate it, could you provide some more information?
Thanks for the quick reply.
I'll download and test the new version tomorrow, if the date issue persists I'll give you more info, but seeing as you can't replicate it, it is most likely an issue at my end.
I actually just came across this thread because I'm having the same issue with the date.
I freshly installed Smart Blog and created a month for July and a new post inside that. I typed in some sample text, but it would not let me save or save and publish because of the date field.
Truncating it just the date allowed me to save, but then the time just zeroed out.
I tried changing the property type to just the date, and the error persisted.
I'm guessing there's something off with the date pickers, because you don't necessarily have to truncate the time. You can just delete the last number, and then type it back in, and the error will go away. So perhaps when the date picker autofills the field, it doesn't recognize it, but as soon as you type something in, it does.
@Tessa, It is an odd problem! The date picker doesn't even auto fill for me... I have to choose the date and then the page saves correctly first time. Unfortunately though, I'd have to say it's an Umbraco issue, since SmartBlog only makes use of the build in Umbraco date picker with no extra functionality.
I have not posted anywhere else about this issue. This is my first time posting on the Umbraco forums.
Most of the sites we have are using an older version of Umbraco, so with our newest client, I wanted to upgrade to Umbraco 7. I'm not entirely familiar with the new version, but I'm learning.
Anyone found a workaround for the error with the DatePicker?
When I create a new post and set a date everything is fine. When I reload the site, edit some information and want to save the post I get the following error:
Property has errors
When I change the date, or just open the DatePicker and close it, I can save the document properly.
