Umbraco osmosis it just not necessary.
The instructions say; "This package outputs the URL...."
No it doesn't! Not unless you create a page to do it and have allowed the template and so on ......
I worked out that you have to go through the following steps:
1: install the package
2: Allow the sitemap template in the DocumentType you use for pages at the root level. Or create a new sitemap DocumentType and allow the template for that.
3: Create a new page using the above document type.
