    Skybrud Social for v8

    Hi,

I have an Umbraco v8 site and I'd like to display all of the tweets from my Twitter account on a page.

I'm just trying to understand what the current situation is with the Skybrud Social package in terms of versions and Umbraco integration. I believe the Umbraco 7 version of the package contained a data-type which let people authenticate their Twitter account by clicking a button in the back-office which stored the authentication token as content which could then be used as the basis for generating calls to the Twitter API.

Looking at the latest version of Skybrud Social (https://social.skybrud.dk/) it seems there is a main Skybrud.Social package and a series of specific packages too, such as Skybrud.Social.Twitter.

Is Skybrud.Social effectively just a collection of all of the individual packages? So if I only need Twitter I only need to install Skybrud.Social.Twitter?

It doesn't seem like the new packages are integrated into Umbraco, so there isn't a nice editor-friendly way to authenticate a Twitter account. Is that right? That was a handy feature.

    Thanks for any pointers :)

    Hi Dan,

Skybrud.Social used to be a single package with support for a handful of different services. But as I added support for more services, and I had support the changes made by those services, I found it best to split up the package into individual packages instead - making it both easier for me to maintain, and hopefully also easier for developers to consume the packages. So yes, Skybrud.Social is now a collection individual packages, so if you need to integrate with Twitter, you can install Skybrud.Social.Twitter, if you need to integrate with Facebook, you can install Skybrud.Social.Facebook and so forth.

For the Umbraco-specific package, it's correct that this isn't available for Umbraco 8. As an agency doing client work, we typically use the individual Skybrud.Social packages directly.

So due to us not having a use case for it internally, prioritizing other packages, and me not having the necessary time for it, there isn't a finished version for Umbraco 8 (there is a beta back from 2019, but that doesn't support Twitter).

Also for the reasons mentioned above, I have no active plans for finishing the package for Umbraco 8. I'd like to at some point, both because it's a great showcase for the underlying Skybrud.Social packages, and because the Umbraco 7 still seem to be popular on NuGet in terms of downloads. But for now I can't make any promises.

I hope that makes sense ;)

Brilliant, that all makes perfect sense, thanks Anders.
