No, we cannot make a package of the Starter Kit v2. The reason is mainly the many great packages we have incorporated into the Starter Kit. Umbraco packages cannot install other packages (Which is too bad). That means that we could either demand that you guys install all of them before installing the Starter Kit, or that we could offer the kit as a all in one zip. We chose the last option, as it's much easier for you to install.
As to your second question. The engine is in this very moment Tea Commerce 1.4.1.1 BETA, but the next release will have the non beta version installed per default. You can update Tea Commerce at any time by downloading and installing the newest version here. When updating Tea Commerce no settings will be changed. Only the engine will be upgraded. Always check our revision history before updating. We tend to fix our mistakes, even if it breaks stuff. We hate legacy bugs :)
I hope that answers your questions. Otherwise feel free to ask again.
May I ask you what's wrong with the current method of using the Starter Kit? It's almost as easy as installing a package on a clean Umbraco, which where the procedure for the old Starter Kit. If not easier as you don't have to install either Umbraco, Tea Commerce or any other packages. Except you need some extra packages. :)
1. I may be lazy, but I'm using Web PI to install a new site, because it takes care of creating the IIS site, App Pool user, folder rights, creating DB, DB user, and settting security. With this starter kit, I have to delete the files in the site afterwards :)
2. It will not be possible to install TC into a site you already startet developing. This may happen if you have seperated your website from your webshop, but would like to keep both in the same installation
1. I can see that. I don't know Web PI, but maybe you can make it install a Tea Commerce starter kit?
2. No, you cannot do that. BUT, we recommended that our old starter kit package would be installed on a clean umbraco installation. The reason for that is that the package comes with all kinds of stuff that might ruin parts of an excisting website. So I would'nt recommend that in any case. When integrating into an excisting website you should install the starter kit on another test solution and just drag to stuff you need to the excisting website. Takes a little more time, but the result will be great. I have done this myself and, if you know what you're doing it can be done pretty fast.
I'm currently going through the process of #2 but I have to say it is a bit painfull.Stripping out a lot of the features, trying to figure out what has broken and then reimplementing in the style we want may be quick if you know teacommerce inside out but it proving to be more time consuming than I would expect.
A simple package (product name, description + price), with minimal styling, and none of the extra packages of the full starter kit would be beneficial. i.e. something that can be easily integrated with a site that is already in development.
Thanks for you input. It is really appreciated. We will talk about reintroducing the installable starter kit again. You are welcome to try out the old starter kit package, that which can be installed like any other Umbraco package. It's a while ago since we updated it but it should still work:
Starterkit as a package
Hi
Do you have any plans to release starterkit 2.0.2.0 as a package? It would be nice to install into an already running umbraco installation.
The "engine" behind 2.0.2.0 is that 1.4.1.1 or will that be released seperately later, to be able to update an excisting umbraco?
/Bo

Thank you for the answer, although not quite what I hoped :)
Yeah, would have been better as a package.

1. Web PI is Microsoft's Web Platform Installer.
2. Okay then :)
