I am trying to setup a product list widget, but all I see in the select items section is [no start node found]. where can I set the start node?

The product list widget use a datatype - so go find it a see how it is setup and correct the things you need.

    Kind regards

I looked at the doc type in the sample store but nothing is selected there, but it's working in the sample store and not in mine.

It is not a doc type - it was a datatype :)

So you need to go to the developer section and find the data types that is used (that can be seen at your doc type). There the settings for the data type can be configured. If you used the starter kit as it is - it should have the widget working with out problems. I just tested it at my place and it works out of the box.

    Kind regards
    Anders

after taking a look at the data type I understand that I need to publish the "product list" widget  in order to see the content tree. once again thank you :)
