I could perhaps use the same code and modify it but I'm wondering about:
I'd like to offer free shipping with prices above X. My site doesn't have multiple countries nor currencies.

Hi Mike,
You should be able to do this with the built-in marketing rules and awards.
The following rule would make shipping free when the subtotal is above 500 JMD:
